Jenna Matzinger had 10 points in the game
MONACA, Pa. - The Pennsylvania College of Technology women's basketball team lost its first Penn State University Athletic Conference game of the year, falling 78-55 to Penn State Beaver Saturday. Freshman Jamie Steer (South Williamsport) led the Wildcats with 20 points. The loss drops the team to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Out of the gate, Beaver went on a 5-0 run before back-to-back jumpers from sophomore Jenna Matzinger (Coudersport) pulled the Wildcats to within one at 16:58. The rest of the half though, Beaver slowly built a lead going into the break up 41-27.
Matzinger finished the game with 10 points.
It was much of the same story in the second half with the Lions keeping a double figure lead. They totaled 27 steals for the game helping their cause as Penn College struggled with turnovers with 39.
The Wildcats were strong in the paint out-rebounding Beaver 36-28. Sophomore Mackenzie Brown (Lititz) led the team with nine rebounds. As a team they shot 21-55 (.38) from the field.
Next up, Penn College travels to Elmira College on Saturday, Dec. 15 for a 3 p.m. game.
