Intercollegiate Athletics Eligibility Requirements

To participate in intercollegiate athletics, students must be full time (12 or more credits). Students must have a grade-point average of 2.0 or better; students may not participate in intercollegiate athletics if they are on academic probation. Student-athletes must make satisfactory progress toward graduation, earning a minimum of nine credits after completing one semester, 24 credits after the second semester, and twelve credits for each full-time semester completed.

All student-athletes must meet eligibility standards established by the conferences and Penn College. The Director of Athletics will verify information regarding grade-point average, credit hours, and semesters completed, and will send the information to the conferences where it is again verified and kept on file.

Excused Absence

Student-athletes may be excused from class to compete in scheduled intercollegiate athletic contests. The Director of Athletics provides each student-athlete with a letter verifying he/she is a team member and listing the schedule of all intercollegiate contests. It is the student-athlete's responsibility to have this letter signed by his/her instructor(s) and returned to the Director of Athletics. It also is the student-athlete's responsibility to make up any work missed, consistent with course objectives. At no time may a student-athlete miss a class or lab in order to attend practice.

All appeals regarding intercollegiate athletic eligibility must be adjudicated by the Vice President for Student Affairs.
