Schuyler Frey

Coach Frey is the first to step into the head coaching position for wrestling at Penn College.  The program, while a successful staple for the Williamsport Area Community College, had only been at club status until 2011 when the department made it a full-fledged intercollegiate program.  In Frey’s first year, he coached two wrestlers to national championship berths in addition to setting up bouts with top local programs like Bloomsburg, Bucknell, Lycoming and Lock Haven.

In the 2011-12 season, Frey led the team to a 6-3 overall record capturing the first PSUAC Championship for wrestling.  The team placed fourth at the MEC Championships and had a program-high six wrestlers qualify for the NCWA Championships.  The season ended on a high note with the program's first two All-Americans - Derek Leiby and Tyler Myers.  The team finished and impressive 17th out of the 79 teams in attendance.  The following year, the team's record improved to 13-8 with a third place finish at the MEC tournament.  Seven Wildcat wrestlers qualified for the national championships with Ryan Hart becoming the third-ever All-American under Frey.

Frey is a local of the Williamsport area having graduated from Warrior Run High School.  While there, he wrestled for the varsity program.  After graduating, he enlisted in the Navy where he also wrestled.  Her served from 1979-1983.

Frey started his coaching career with the wrestling squad at Montoursville Elementary.  He started off as an assistant in 2000 then took over as head coach in 2004, serving for three years.   During that time, he also assisted with the Ken Chertow wrestling camps, which he still continues today.

Frey resides in Montoursville with his wife Denise, daughter Sarah and sons Schuyler and Luke.  He works as a supervisor for Highmark Medicare Services in Williamsport.
