Placement Test Contents — Math
The math placement test is a test with at least two parts, sometimes three, for students with advanced math skills.
Test Sequence
Elementary Algebra
1. All students begin with an elementary algebra test. The Elementary Algebra test covers first-year algebra concepts.
This test will be scored immediately; your score
will determine which test you take next.
What
does the Elementary Algebra test measure?
Intermediate Algebra OR Arithmetic
2a. If you have a background in and knowledge of basic algebra and your score
demonstrates a mastery of those concepts, you will go on to take the
Intermediate Algebra test. The Intermediate Algebra test covers algebra II
concepts and some geometry.

2b. If you have very little or no algebra background and your score demonstrates
a weakness in basic algebra, you will take the arithmetic test. The Arithmetic
test covers fundamental arithmetic concepts.
What does the Arithmetic test measure?
Functions and Graphs
3. If you have advanced math skills and do very well on the elementary and
intermediate math tests, or if you have a recent math SAT score of 550 or higher
and a total score of 1050, you are eligible to take the Functions and Graphs
test. SAT scores must be not older than 2 years. The Functions and Graphs test
measures Calculus readiness.
