Options For Satisfying Developmental Requirements - Spring Enrolling Students

Take Developmental Courses in Your First Semester

If you have developmental requirements, one or more of those courses will be automatically scheduled for your first semester. All developmental requirements should be satisfied within your first two semesters of enrollment.

Take Summer Courses

If you have more than one developmental requirement in a placement area, you may take the next developmental course during the summer.

For example, if your test results indicate a need for MTH005 and 006, you will be scheduled for MTH005 in the Spring, and may take MTH006 over the summer.

You may also choose to take course work delayed by developmental needs during the summer.

For example, if your test results indicate a need for MTH006, you will be scheduled for it in the Spring semester, and may take MTH180 over the summer.

Summer courses at Penn College

A 25% tuition discount is available for developmental courses offered during the summer semester.

Summer Courses at Another College

If you prefer, you can take courses at another college closer to your home. If you choose this option you MUST:

  • Consult the Advisement Center first; the staff will helpyou identify a course that is an equivalent to the required Penn College course.
  • Earn a grade of “C”, or better, in the course; (grades below “C” will not transfer).
  • When the course has been completed, have your officialtranscript sent to Penn College's Admissions Office.
  • Make the necessary changes to your schedule after completing the course.

Appeal Process

When you appeal your placement you are asking to retake a placement test for a specific reason. Retests are not granted automatically; we must have a clear reason to retest you. Specifically, you may appeal if you believe that your test scores are not an accurate reflection of your current skill level due to an illness, injury, or to other extenuating circumstances that affected your performance on test day.

To determine if the Appeal is a viable option for you, follow the steps below:

  • Review the Placement Test Appeal Process for information and procedures.
  • Contact the Advisement Center with questions you have about the process, and to discuss your eligibility for a retest.
  • Follow the instructions for completing and submitting an Appeal Form.
