Options For Satisfying Developmental Requirements - Fall Enrolling Students
1. Take Courses at Penn College
Many students take their developmental courses during their first semester; if you have developmental requirements, one or more of those courses will be on your first semester schedule. All developmental requirements should be satisfied within your first two semesters of enrollment.
Summer courses at Penn College Some students choose to satisfy developmental requirements before beginning their first semester by taking courses at Penn College during the summer. A 25% tuition discount is available for developmental courses offered during the summer semester. Remediating your developmental needs before enrolling in your first full semester is the option most recommended by Penn College deans and faculty.
Contact the Advisement Center to discuss scheduling summer courses.
2. Take Courses at Another College
If you prefer, you can take courses at another college closer to home to satisfy your developmental requirements before enrolling at Penn College. If you choose this option you will need to do the following:
- Consult the Advisement Center first; the staff will help you identify a course that is an equivalent to the required Penn College course.
- Earn a grade of "C", or better, in the course; (grades below "C" will not
transfer).
Have your official transcript sent to Penn College’s Admissions Office after completing the course. - After transferring the course, make the necessary changes to your schedule. Contact the Advisement Center; you may need to attend Late Registration to change your schedule.
- Since most summer classes end shortly before fall classes begin, your transcript from another college may not arrive before Late Registration. Contact the Advisement Center (after you have enrolled in the course) to discuss the alternative documentation you may provide that will allow you to update your schedule prior to the arrival of your official transcript.
3. Summer PLUS Program

Specifically, in Summer PLUS, students will do the following:
- take a class in one developmental subject area to brush up on weak skills

- retake the placement test in the developmental subject area at the end of the 5 weeks
