Getting Into College: A Guide for High School Seniors
September
Once you have received application forms, think about applying early. You can
find our online application at
www.pct.edu/admissions/howtoapply.htm.
October
If you have not yet seen Penn College, March is the perfect time to visit
during our Spring Open House. For more information visit www.pct.edu/openhouse/.
If you are just now applying to Penn College, see your high school guidance
counselor to have a copy of your transcript sent to us. In addition, if we do
not have your current SAT scores, have the results sent to the College.
November
For colleges with rolling admissions, the sooner you send your application
materials, the better.
If you have already applied and have returned a tuition deposit form and a
housing card, you will receive a legally binding housing contract indicating
that you want to live on the Penn College campus.
Take time to research the scholarships available at Penn College
(www.pct.edu/scholarships/). This is the time to begin the necessary paperwork
for the scholarship applications.
December
Start working with your parents on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA). You can apply at
www.fafsa.ed.gov, get forms from your high school counseling office, or
(800) 433-3243. Pay close attention to instructions and deadlines, and remember
the electronic application is processed faster than the mailed form.
Before you plan a visit in December, check our holiday closings schedule at
www.pct.edu.
JJanuary
File your FAFSA as soon as your/your parent’s income tax information is
available, and apply for state aid.
Don’t give into “senioritis." Your high school graduation status is contingent
upon your final grades.
Visit www.pct.edu/scholarships/ to determine if you will apply for any Penn
College scholarships as the deadlines approach.
February
Mark your calendar: February 1 is the deadline for all Penn College financial
aid scholarship applications for the upcoming Fall semester.
Respond promptly to any requests for information from Penn College offices.
File your FAFSA as soon as your/your parent’s income tax information is
available, and apply for state aid.
March
If you have not yet seen Penn College, March is the perfect time to visit during
our Spring Open House. For more information visit
www.pct.edu/openhouse/.
Continue to look for sources of aid. Try your place of worship, your school,
your parents' employers, and Web sites like
www.fastweb.com,
www.collegeboard.com,
www.students.gov,
and www.usnews.com.
April
Study your financial aid offers. You will need to decide which package fits your
family’s needs by May 1.
May
Find a summer job that will boost your skills and your savings. Remember that,
besides tuition and housing, you will encounter other expenses such as books,
supplies, movies, pizza, etc.
June
Congratulations on your high school graduation!
July
You will receive your first semester tuition bill. Make sure that you pay by the
deadline to secure your class schedule. If you do not pay on time, you could
lose your seat in your selected classes.
Watch the mail for information regarding on-campus housing room assignments. If
you are living off campus, contact your landlord about your living arrangement.
Once you know where you will be living, you can decide what apartment supplies
you may need.
August
Spend some time thinking about what you want to accomplish at Penn College…It’s
finally time to go!
