2009 Farm Show Events

Saturday, January 10

School of Transportation Technology

The School of Transportation Technology will offer automotive, aviation, and collision repair demonstrations and hands-on activities throughout the day.

  • Automotive - Faculty will discuss fuel cell technology and assist visitors with constructing model fuel cell powered vehicles.
  • Aviation - Faculty will demonstrate a model experimental velocity aircraft and show how weight and balance are distributed in an aircraft.
  • Collision Repair - Faculty will demonstrate how vehicles are masked for painting, how pin-striping is accomplished, and a wire body damage analysis sequence.

Sunday, January 11

Breakfast with the Alumni Association       9-11 a.m. in the VIP Room

Help celebrate Family Day at the Pennsylvania Farm Show! Join the Penn College Alumni Association for breakfast in the VIP Room at 9 a.m. Visit with college faculty, staff, and fellow alumni. Then, spend the rest of the day exploring the Farm Show! More Farm Show information can be found at the following link: http://www.agriculture.state.pa.us/farmshow.

School of Hospitality

Culinary students and faculty will be among those who will demonstrate their culinary techniques live on the Culinary Connection stage throughout the day. In the Penn College booth, a food demonstration will be given by our own Chef Paul Mach.

Activities for day include:

  • Interactive forestry display
  • Demonstration of failed engine parts with faculty members

Tuesday, January 13

School of Integrated Studies

Pennsylvania ranks in the top five states in the nation in terms of employment, value of goods produced, and number of establishments in the printing (graphic communications) industry. Learn about the many, varied career opportunities available in today's high-tech printing industry. Participate with faculty and students in a hands-on activity in the process of dye sublimation, a printing process that uses sublimation dyes that can be permanently heat-transferred to T-shirts, hats, mugs, metals, puzzles, and other surfaces.

School of Health Sciences

  • Physical Fitness Specialist - Are you up for a physical challenge? Experience alternative methods of physical activity and learn how to become more active with minimal exercise equipment. Try various types of equipment such as balance boards, Bosu ball, blood pressure cuffs, and hand-held body composition analyzer. Stop by to talk with experienced faculty about the career opportunities available with a Physical Fitness Specialist Degree.
  • Surgical Technology - Experience the skills needed to perform in the operating room. Explore how surgery is performed using actual surgical instruments and models; try your skill at an appendectomy, or laparotomy. Meet our faculty from Penn College's Surgical Technology program and find out why our graduates are in high demand.
  • Nursing - Listen to sounds of life. Use a real medical stethoscope to experience life-like heart and lung sounds. Our Vital Annie simulator will allow you to hear what nursing professionals are assessing when they evaluate these key signs of life and death. Find out from our nursing education representative why opportunities are limitless in this challenging and rewarding profession.

  • Design and create your own sign using plastics thermo-forming technology

School of Business and Computer Technologies

Faculty will demonstrate consumer Information Technology (IT) applications and explain why IT serves such a central role in our society.
