Words of Wisdom
... from a Residential Construction Technology & Management student (Summer 2006)
My name is Brian Tretter. I am currently in my third year a Pennsylvania College or Technology working on a bachelor’s degree in Residential Construction Technology and Management. When I was a senior in high school, I was very unsure about what I wanted do to with my life. I had always dreamed of becoming an architect. I visited a couple of colleges in New York State that had architecture majors. After visiting these schools, I began to realize that maybe architecture was not going to be the right field for me. I didn’t want to spend my life sitting in an office; I wanted to be out there, on the job, doing the work. I then remembered a school trip I had taken to Penn College and thought, “Why not visit there?” I was very impressed with the college during that first visit. From driving onto campus through the striking main entrance to the helpfulness of the staff in answering my questions and providing additional information. Compared to the other colleges I had visited, I was impressed by the wide-open space here at Penn College. None of the buildings seemed crowded together.
When it finally came time to decide where to continue my education, Penn College stood out from other schools. Here is a school, only about an hour from my hometown, where I can receive a better education than I would if I went to some school three, four, or more hours away. Instead of traveling out of state to receive the hands-on technical training I desired, I could come right here to Williamsport without making a trade in the quality of instruction I would be receiving.
