College students are busy people! They have homes or apartments to keep up, many have jobs, and some also care for children or parents. That's why time management is so crucial for success in college. Many students don't manage their time well, and as a consequence, their grades suffer.
Tips to help you manage your time effectively:
- Procrastination is common! Fight it! Look for your procrastination patterns and break them!
- Keep a calendar, and write down all dates for tests, quizzes, and assignments.
- Set realistic deadlines and goals for yourself.
- Different people find different times of the day best for studying. What is your best time?
- Set priorities when there's not enough time to do everything.
- Sometimes, you'll have to say NO to friends and family so that your academic work can be completed. Learn how to do this without feeling guilty.
- Don't waste time, but allow some time every week to relax.
More time management tips:
- Have a large assignment? Divide it into sections, and appreciate completion of sections.
- Study as much as possible while on campus.
- Reward yourself with something you like, for your good time management.
- Good students don't have to be perfectionists!
- Take pride in your achievements, and learn from your mistakes. Stay motivated!
- Sleeping well is essential...don't sacrifice sleep or you may pay for it.
- Consult with staff or faculty you trust if the pressure gets too high.
