Tips for Success – Weekly Planner

View and print this weekly schedule (PDF) to help you plan.

How to make the most of it:

  1. Mark off times of the day for activities in your life that occur at the same time every week (classes, work hours, sleep, meetings, dinner, etc.).
  2. Note how much 'free' time you have left.
  3. Choose time periods for studying (includes reading, writing, doing problems, researching, rewriting notes, and more). A good guide is to devote 2-3 hours of study time per week for every hour you're in class each week. For example, a student enrolled in 12 credits should consider devoting 24-36 hours of study time every week.

Wow, that's a lot, right? Yes, but the truth is that motivated students view college as a full-time job.

Why keep a schedule? It helps get you started, helps you avoid disliked subjects or assignments, and can keep you from wasting time. Many students will stick to a schedule better if it's written.
