Tips for Success – Weekly Planner

How to make the most of it:
- Mark off times of the day for activities in your life that occur at the same time every week (classes, work hours, sleep, meetings, dinner, etc.).
- Note how much 'free' time you have left.
- Choose time periods for studying (includes reading, writing, doing problems, researching, rewriting notes, and more). A good guide is to devote 2-3 hours of study time per week for every hour you're in class each week. For example, a student enrolled in 12 credits should consider devoting 24-36 hours of study time every week.
Wow, that's a lot, right? Yes, but the truth is that motivated students view college as a full-time job.
Why keep a schedule? It helps get you started, helps you avoid disliked subjects or assignments, and can keep you from wasting time. Many students will stick to a schedule better if it's written.
