[Success Tips] [Time Management] [Study Habits] [Dealing With Test Anxiety] [SQ3R] [Math Tips] [Weekly Planner]
- Use as many resources as you need, including:
- Act 101
- Tutoring Center
- professors’ office hours
- each other
- classmates
- Come up with questions as you read, listen, and do problems, and make sure you get your questions answered.
- Read your math book/materials, and go through the examples in detail.
- Consider trying the examples on your own without looking at how they’re solve.
- Don’t just date your notes. Title or label your notes so you know what topics the notes are about when you review.
- Write (or rewrite) your notes so you can understand them at a later time.
- Review and/or work on homework as soon as possible after class.
- Refer back to relevant examples in your book, notebook, or handouts as you do homework problems.
- As you do problems, write down in your own words what you do for each step.
- Don’t skip steps.
- Practicing homework problems is crucial to maximize success on exams.
- Use index cards even if they are not required.
- Look for and learn the patterns ... they are everywhere in math.
- Write out a step-by-step process of the patterns in your own words, such as the process for solving linear equations.
